Sleep Disorders and Chronobiology

Sleep is essential for cognitive function, emotional regulation, and physical health. This track explores the neurobiological mechanisms governing sleep-wake cycles and circadian rhythms. Topics include common sleep disorders such as insomnia, sleep apnea, narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome, and REM behaviour disorder. Researchers will discuss the neural circuits involved in sleep regulation, the role of neurotransmitters like melatonin and orexin, and the impact of sleep on memory and mental health. Advances in sleep monitoring, wearable technology, and the pharmacology of sleep aids will be covered. This track is vital for understanding how disrupted sleep contributes to neurological and psychiatric disorders and for developing evidence-based treatments.
