Pain Mechanisms and Management
Chronic pain affects nearly one in five adults worldwide and presents a major healthcare challenge. This track explores the neurobiological mechanisms underlying both acute and chronic pain, including nociceptive pathways, central sensitization, and the role of glial cells. Topics include neuropathic pain, migraine, fibromyalgia, and cancer-related pain. Sessions will cover pharmacological treatments such as opioids, NSAIDs, and emerging agents like cannabinoids and sodium channel blockers. Non-pharmacological approaches, including neuromodulator, cognitive behavioural therapy, and physiotherapy, will also be discussed. By integrating basic science with clinical approaches, this track seeks to improve pain assessment and develop individualized treatment strategies.
